It was amazing how quickly things changed, Leonard thought. Five years ago, he'd absolutely, positively hated coffee. Sure, it smelled nice and all, but back then he thought the aftertaste was like something out of a nightmare. Now, he could hardly live without the stuff. It was amazing what college did to a person. He couldn't remember the last time he'd fully woken up without a cup of coffee, in fact - Leonard finally understood why his parents lived and died by the drink. Luckily, after college he'd never had to get up that early (a definite pro for someone like him, who thought that mornings were basically another one of God's ways of getting back at Adam and Eve), but the craving for coffee had never gone away. Apparently it was just one of those things you had to get used to. Well, either that or he was so accustomed to the taste at this point that it didn't even phase him anymore. Of course, he still drank his coffee with more milk and sugar than actual coffee, but that was irrelevant. The real issue here was that the stupid hotel had messed up and given Room 125 a wake-up call rather than room 215, and now Leonard was up far earlier than he'd ever planned on being awake again. The only solution was, obviously, coffee. The hotel coffee didn't count, either. Besides, as long as he was up, he might as well make something of the situation. Rather than drinking hotel coffee, then, he decided to go to Starbucks. He didn't honestly think the quality of the coffee actually merited the extra cost, but it was better than doing nothing.
As he walked outside the hotel, he was immediately glad that he'd decided to walk. It was absolutely gorgeous outside. Honestly, if there was one thing about Paris that he liked more than New York, it was the weather. Leonard had almost forgotten how nice the summer was. The sun was shining, and it was certainly warm, but there was a breeze that hardly ever existed back home. Before he knew it (and before he felt he could properly 'appreciate' the weather), he was at Starbucks. There was a long line, as always - Leonard couldn't remember the last time he'd gone to a cafe anywhere and there was no line, and it seemed like Paris wasn't going to be any different in that respect. He sighed a little and pulled out his phone as he waited, texting someone aimlessly. By the time he was able to place his order, he'd almost forgotten why he'd come. "Oh...um, I'll take a venti espresso machiatto, thanks," he said, frowning slightly. His French still wasn't quite up to par. Now that he'd spent some time outside, he wasn't quite sure he wanted a hot drink, but whatever. That was what he'd came for, and he might as well get it. Paying for the drink, he stepped over to the side to wait. It didn't take too long - his drink wasn't a frappucino or one of those things that took forever to make, so when he got it, he started looking around for a place to sit. All of the tables were full, which was unsurprising at this hour, so having failed at finding an empty table, he began searching for one that had empty seats.
Eventually, he just decided to go outside. It was a nice enough day, after all, and people-watching along the Champs-Elysees was always fascinating. There were certainly some characters here; that much was hard to deny. Life moved so much slower here than it did back home, he reflected as he took a seat at an outside table. It was difficult to adjust - heck, it had been four months and he still found himself rushing everywhere (as well as he could, he still couldn't run correctly) - but then, he didn't want to adjust, really. Paris was nice and all, but his home was New York, and he missed it.
